Update – Mid September…

I’ve not been keeping up as much as I wanted with my blog so I thought I’d do a quick update.

I’ve a couple of game AARs to put up so watch out for those this coming week… including some thoughts of NUTS!/2HW rules.

I’ve got 2 little projects on the go. Evan is planning a big game up at his house. Playing a DDay para game on a 6 by 8 foot table should be good. Thing is we need some cows both dead and alive. To that end I’ve bought a pack of the Pegasus Farm animals for the live ones and I’ll be ordering some dead ones from Sgts. Mess in a shortwhile.

The 2nd project is a little something for the Cold War: a platoon of US Mechanized infantry with a few support bits. I’m aiming for 2 Revell M60s, 4 Airfix M113s for the infantry and 2 converted M113s in the Anti tank role. The figures will be coming from Elhiem and Liberation- who will also be providing the M113 conversions. Should be a nice little skirmish force. I’m going for the MERDC camo scheme so that will place them in the late 70s/ early 80s. Basically before the M1 Abrams entered service as well as the ‘Fritz’ helmet and Minimi (M249).

Personally I think that technologically speaking the later you set a WW3 what if game the bigger disadvantage the Soviets have. So it should be interesting to see how things match up on the table top.

10mm FPW- A project abandoned.

I bought a few packs of the Pendraken Franco Prussian War range to see what they were like, the Guild Forum group build prompted me into action as it was something I’ve considering for a while. It was to be a start of a major project.

Unfortunately I won’t be taking it any further. Long story short 10mms and I don’t get on. I find them too fiddly to paint and they take too long to finish given the number I wanted to get. I should of really realized this after trying to paint some of Brain/ Count_Zero’s, I enjoyed the vehicles but not the men….

Quite where this leaves my gaming of the Franco Prussian War I’m not sure. The whole point of dropping from my usual 20mm to 10 mm was to get big engagements onto my 6 by 4 foot board. 6mm would be just more of the same and 15mm wouldn’t offer the same space savings that I need. I’ve got a few 20mm that I will keep to skirmish the smaller engagements- especially those involving the Franc- tireurs. Needless to say 25/28mm is right out. I’ve a board game for the war ‘Blood and Iron’ which should do to fill- in in the mean time- I’ll keep an eye out for any others too.

The other option is to game the FPW the way it was gamed at the time with the original Kriegspiel wars… this need more investigation, especially with regards to suitable maps. I’ll have another look as to what Too Fat Lardies offer.
