From the Shed: Dodge Ambulance and air field equipment.

I’ve just finished this rather smart little ambulance in 1/72nd scale from Academy.

dodge ambulance

I struggled a bit with decals, even after all these years of making models it is still something I find problematic.

The tractor and bomb trolley makes for some nice extras- they’d go well with the old Airfix figures on a air base set up.

Both should be good for my WW2 games or even into the Korean War.

Cheers,

Pete.

Those look great, Pete! The decal issue is not you, Academy are notorious for poor decals and everybody struggles with them. Not a lot of aftermarket markings for 1/72 armor unfortunately, you have to dig a bit to find anything.

Thanks Jeff- glad to know it wasn’t just me then. I remember thinking it wasn’t even that old a kit (I know decals can serverly degrade with age). There are a few aftermarket decals sets out there. Bison is a favourite of mine.

      Cheers,

      Pete.

  2. Very nice, Pete! I really like your weathering on the ambulance, looks spot on! 🙂

They are cute! I haven’t done decals myself in years, though I keep meaning to at some point but “conveniently” never do. Looks like that even if you struggle, they came out looking nice this time.

  5. Very nice Pete, like the weathering.

  6. Looking good Pete, I really like the dodge.

Love it mate ,yeah decals ,they always bugger up on me ,so luckily I only have to deal with them on the odd occasion !

  8. Those are outstanding:) They would be Great for the Korean war. And you could even use them in to Vietnam. I believe or even Post Apocalyptic Twilight 2000 no pesky Electronics to get Nuked:) Some things on it could be effected by EMPs but not to much:) Nothing like modern vehicles •
    Take care Pete

Thanks- great idea about the post nuclear effects of EMP. Something not often considered (pretty sure there was a scene in a film where the cars don’t work after a bomb blast).

      Cheers,

      Pete.

  9. Hey I looked again I just don’t see anything wrong with the decals:) it looks super. The weathering is Great as well:) it’s a Nice thing to put on the battlefield. Helps the game look detailed. I also enjoy real looking games. Ruins that have all four walls or however many the building had. Burned trees, shell holes, wrecked carts, wagons, cars civilians running away blocking roads if it’s a newer battlefield not older ruins. These super vehicles you have here do great for this:)
    Take care my friend.

The decals that stayed on turned out OK- most went into the bin- especially the smaller ones.

I have the same approach to setting up a table- it has to look suitably lived in rather than the features just plonked down.

      Cheers,

      Pete.

      • You are so right:) A lot of our club games sadly don’t get much detail like that. Not sure why some of the guys don’t do a lot of detail:( Like you I believe the more realistic the terrain looks the better the Wargame!
I just made a Post Apocalyptic Alamo I have on EBay and it has Men’s women’s bathrooms and kitchen. Lots of detail It’s a Bar and Grill called the Alamo I was going to write a little story about it:) it has a Big Skull Santa Anna for its road sign. It’s a Twilight 2000 item. It’s on the Boarder with Mexico. It’s being held by a small unit of what’s left of some of the US Army 5th Infantry Div. that had come back for refit and R&R and training. Now and again strange Things happen;) The units never got to return do to to many ships being sunk. Some ships just being lost under Odd circumstance 😉 Deep Ones) I do as well as my players enjoy a bit of Monsters in my Twilight 2000. Lil CoC is fun now and again but it’s mostly just Human Vs Human Warfare. I do pepper Monsters in from time to time. Lots of Zombies in the world when I feel the players want something different. I also added Umbrella Corporation In my campaign. There are only about 1,000,600,000 Billion people left on earth and more go every day. Take care my friend

Hello Dave, Just found it on ebay- that is afantastic piece of work- having seen your stuff in the flesh so to speak I know how good it is.

        Cheers,

        Pete.

  10. Azazel says:

The models look good, and I had to look again after your note to see thge sheen. Do you use the gloss varnish, softener, gloss, matte method to “hide” them?

    • Pete S/ SP says:

Thanks- yeah that it my usual technique. It mostly worked with this, they didn’t soften too well though and several broke apart so didn’t make it on to the model.

      Cheers,

      Pete.

  11. Hi Pete thank you for the kind words. 🙂 I’m temped to keep the Alamo got a lot of time in it. I’m very happy you liked the gift my friend:)
    God Bless.
    Dave

    • Pete S/ SP says:

I’d be tempted to keep it too- never sold any of my terrain.

      Cheers,

      Pete.

      • Hi! I was very tempted to keep the Alamo piece. And I am often tempted to keep many of my items. The Alamo just sold yesterday. It’s a very fun item. Took a lot of work:) Hope buyer gives it a great happy home. All our items are unique, don’t make anything the same. It can be similar though. He is a regular customer. I’ll miss the Alamo. If you ever want anything else let me know. I’ll make it if you just pay shipping. Shipping is awful from here to there and there to here sadly. We need President Trump to work out a good shipping for both sides so we may trade easier and that would be super for both UK and USA:) God Bless
        Your friend
        Dave

      • Pete S/ SP says:

Thanks for that it is appreciated. Shipping costs just seem to go up and up these days.

        Cheers,

        Pete.
