From the Shed: The latest expansion for my Van Saar gang.

Given that the local club where I play Necromunda has been closed since lockdown I thought it would be a good time to get the next 10 of my gang painted… I know that makes 30 but it gives me plenty of options to swap out models as my gang grows in campaigns (which will hopefully restart sooner rather than later). Also I still had some of the Forge World Weapon parts to use up.

The only down side is I’ve gone off the colour scheme I picked for them now. I’ll still use them as they are a good gang but I was less enthused about painting them than I thought I would be.

Still on with the pics.

The full 10.

The shield carriers – hand flamer, plasma pistol, flamer, multimelta and las carbine.

Gangers with melta gun, combi plasma/ las gun and servo claw, Graviton gun, stave and sub las carbine, twin plasma pistols.

That’s always a bit of a pain when you realise you’ve gone off the colour scheme you picked for a gang (or worse an army – usually when you’re a few thousand points in!). I find it helps to think about the other things you like about them, what they look like as a group, things you enjoy about them in game, background you came up with for them and so on. Without wanting to sound too much like a guru look at the project holistically and the painting process becomes just a part in making your cool gang, rather than a chore in and of itself. Anyway, I think they look ace, and 30 certainly isn’t too many for a Necromunda gang – I like the idea in the backgroundthat the biggest gangs run into the hundreds.

Aye- a hundred would look great… I’ll only get some more when the ‘House of…’ expansion comes out for them. Am looking forward to having so many options come the next campaign. I always wanted a gang with lots of energy shields so I can now do that.

In the mean time I’ve a box of Goliaths and a box of Delaques to keep me occupied. The Delaque weapon load out is a bit weak so may well go for more Forge World weapons for them.

These look nice. Someday I’m going to have to get back into Necromunda. How do the new models compare to the old ones?

    • Pete S/ SP says:

      Thank you.

The new minis are amazing- streets ahead of the old ones. Suffer from scale creep a little. The old Van Saar look quite dated now but the old Orlock and Escher are still nice sculpts. I’ve still got a fondness for the Scavvies too.

I like the colour scheme and the bases too, great work!

  5. Nice to see you getting some more Necromunda figures done! 🙂 I like the scheme they’re in!

Nice additions to your gang. I like the brickwork bases, which seem pretty unique.

Nice job on getting those polished off, Pete! They can be fiddly to paint. I had some burnout after just 6 or so. So cheers on working through a full 30! I like how those colors came out, good looking team.

Have you tried out the new computer game? I bought it, ran through the first tutorial, and then just haven’t had time. The graphics are good, but I’m not sure about the game play yet.

    • Pete S/ SP says:

Thanks Faust. I’ll move onto another gang to keep my interest up. Goliaths are probably next in the queue.

I’ve seen the new PC game but not played it. Not played many computer games at all recently. Not had the time.

Sounds cool. The Goliaths are a pretty good gang. I think I had the most fun with painting the Escher. I also like the Orlocks, but didn’t get far into painting them. Maybe the new Stargrave rules will be a good sub for me and get me back into painting some Necro models.

Cool- need to pick up trhe recent box of prospects and Champs for them.

My girlfriend is currently painting up the Escher box set- they look great minis.

There is nothing more that gives me the gripes than loosing the desire!!! they look good to me though!

  9. Looking good Pete. As you have a lot of them you could have a civil war for control of the gang.

  10. Nice work on the figures Pete! As others have said the bases (always import) look great. Hope all gets better and we’re gaming live sooner than later.

  11. Azazel says:

They really look great Pete – and they’re so unusual for GW compared to their typical style that you’d easily be able to use them in just about any other sci-fi games without that “Space Marines on the table” look that many of their other models give.

    • Pete S/ SP says:

Thanks Azazel. Completely agree with you there- The Van Saar have areal up to date Cyberpunk vibe that is a really departure for them. They even manage to make my old Copplestone Cyberpunk stuff look a bit dated ….
