My new lightbox.

As a few of you have requested I’m posting up some pictures of the lightbox that I got for xmas. Apologies for the delay been preoccupied with writting up a terrorism based game for uni.

The lightbox is a lightweight flexible plastic three sided box with two strips of LEDs running across the top. I’m assuming that the semi circular cut in the lid is to take top down photos.

It came with a selection of coloured backdrops but I prefer the stone texture ones I printed out.

Here is a pair of comparison pictures of a Stalker for Zone Alfa that you’ve seen before.

Here it is already to use.

Sadly this has happened in my old home town:

https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/whats-on/shopping/sadness-one-best-stores-huddersfield-22613909

This means that, other than a GW store there is now nowhere to get glue and paint in town.

Cheers,

Pete.

Very slick. We picked up a lightbox recently, but it hadn’t occurred to me to actually USE the backdrops! I like the effect of your self-printed textures.

Cool, Pete. I hadn’t considered using printed backdrops but will happily steal the idea 🙂

Thanks Jeff. Is a shame- shopped there practically as long as it has been open- starting with Airfix kits and Scalextric.

I think I have the same light box…is yours about 8 or 9 inches wide? I find it’s a bit too easy to catch the sides in the photos. Do you find the same/have a solution? Those are some great backdrop print outs…..do you have some files to share by any chance?

Thanks- I just crop my photos in MSpaint afterwards if I’ve got the edges in or anything else I don’t want- can help recentre the picture too if you’ve gone a bit lopsided (I’m not the most proficient at photography). I just googled ‘stone texture’ and looked for the biggest pictures, by file size- and printed them out from there.

      Cheers,

      Pete.

I think we have the same one Pete but I must admit I stopped using it as the coloured backdrop look bad to me so I may have to give your idea of a different backdrop a go as your photos look great.

Lord Commander Eloth just wrote word for word what I was thinking. Mine has been buried in a box since I moved house a couple of years ago, maybe I should dig it out though. Sorry to hear about the store, that seems to be the way of things all over. I just heard that the pet shop I used to work in is closing, and driving all over the country for work I see “closing down” signs everywhere I go. I guess that’s the price of all these lockdowns, so many small businesses are going – it’s very sad to see. I didn’t know you were from Huddersfield, I’ve never been but I’ve got a few mates who originated there as well.

Thanks- worth getting out again I’d say.

Shame about Huddersfield- the place is a depressing ghost town these days with regeneration always promised ‘tomorrow’ you aren’t missing much.

Covid lockdowns have hit the high street hard.

      Cheers,

      Pete.

It will be online shopping for me too now- will be cheaper than going to the next nearest shop….. A real shame that it shut- It died with the owner.

It was a Super place to get Woodland scenics maybe once in a while a building in HO scale O. Other then that not near as nice as your place. We do still have one model store one game store in same town. Sorry for the loss of the Gent.that owned it he looks friendly. May he RIP with the Lord. Well maybe another will open up. GW shops are ok but very high $$$ now:( God Bless from Dave in USA

Thanks Dave- seeing the shop go is areal shame. I don’t know about the US but the high street over here just can’t compete with online ordering, the range, and now the speed that they can deliver. The town centres up and down the area are just pale iminations of what they once were.

      Cheers,

      Pete.

Light box looks great. Do you have a url to purchase. Sad about the shop. We only have a few hobby shops across Melbourne and only two that you could call a wargaming shop. Most a just glorified toy shops. We have had to get use to travel and or on-line purchases.

The price to pay for sun, surf and sexy chicks!

Nice toy Pete, but I think something is sulking outside feeling cast aside like an old shoe! Its never good to see old favorite shops closing, and especially model shops, one wonders where it will all end. On a recent road trip we stayed and passed through many a town that had lots of shops with For Lease signs in their windows.

That’s a nice little Light box you’ve got there, Pete – I really need to print some new backdrops but I keep forgetting when I’m at work (need to do them in A3!) I’d really like to get hold of a slightly larger lightbox so I don’t need to use the table for my monthly round-ups!
