As it appears yesterday’d blog post was a faliure I’ll have another go at it….
I’ve just finished painting up the Servant/ Cultists of the Abyss from GW. They originally came in the Blackstone Fortress boxed game but were available seperately for a short while. Extra Chaos Cultists are always welcome round these parts and the Negavolt Cultist are rather nice, being as they are the first offical dark mechanicus figures that Gee Dub have produced, despite them being referenced in the lore/ fluff for years. Great to see more beastmen too, I remember the good old days when you could take them in Imperial Guard armies, it does seem that GeeDub are putting these little hints to the past in the box games recently, fan service for the long service gamers I guess, In recent months we’ve seen Zoats return as well as Squats and Beastmen as hired guns in Necromunda.
I’ve given these figures a quick run out with Kill Team, they weren’t particularly good but fun to play. Given I mostly go for narrative games rather than meta- chasing ultra competitative stuff.
GW briefly sold the sprue of the chaos models from the BlackStone Fortress game seperately. I picked a set up to use as a Kill Team as it has some interesting models in they should play different to what I already have. The mix of figures you can have really appeals to my in fluff/ lore terms as it seems to encapsulate the idea of a Chaos Warband really well in a way that hasn’t been done before.
I’ve just finished up the first half of that box.
The Rogue Psyker and Chaos Space Marine.
The Traitor guard (lovely figures these- wish more poses were available).
I’ll start work on the Beastmen and Negavolt Cultists as well as the bigger pack of cultist to go with them
I was kindly given some of the old chaos Spaqce Marines by a friend so decided to paint them up as the infamous Alpha Legion. Notorious for the cunning and deceit, and the subject of many a meme, they look quite fancy in teal and silver. Also in the game lore they make extensive use Chaos cultists which is something that appeals. I also bought the commander from the Blackstone Fortress set seperately to go with them.
Within the squad I have a leader with power fist, a heavy bolter, a flamer, a standard and then a mix of bolters and chainswords with bolt pistols.
I thinking of getting a box of the fallen to convert and paint up in robes to play on their in universe nature.
Either way what I have now will make for a good Kill Team force.
I’ve been slowly working my way through my backlog of minis. Now that there is a new (9th) edition of 40k coming out it give me extra impetus to get a decent sized army painted. So to help that along I’ve finished off my Death Guard Terminators.
I had already painted one of the blightlord terminators for a Kill Team game so I do have a squad of five in total. They all came from the Dolorous Strain box set.
I’ve also got a little squad of the Death Shroud versions- topoled up for melee they should be fairly powerful in the game.
Unfortunately I used up the rest of my Death Guard Green so I need to wait until the shops open back up to get some more to finish off my characters and Daemon Prince. Then it will be pretty much army done.
I love these little models- painted up 30 of them now. Great fillers as horde type cannon fodder for either my Death Guard army or to be worked into a Necromunda campaign.
I went for a mix of colours, keeping them fairly bright too, green, blue and a pink/ purple mix.
If you are interested… here is where I take my photos. It is a nicely waethered bit of stone by my back door (yes I need to tidy it up a bit).
Post will be a bit sporadic going forward. Nicola and I have come down with a mild case of Covid-19. Nothing too serious but it is surprisingly debilitating.
